Maloff Tablets are an antimalarial medication used to prevent malaria in adults travelling to areas where malaria is prevalent. The tablets contain two active ingredients, atovaquone and proguanil hydrochloride, which work together to prevent the malaria parasite from multiplying in the blood.

Description

 

Ingredients:

 

  • Active Ingredients: Atovaquone 250mg, Proguanil Hydrochloride 100mg per tablet
  • Other Ingredients: Microcrystalline Cellulose, Low-Substituted Hydroxypropyl Cellulose, Povidone, Sodium Starch Glycolate, Magnesium Stearate, Hypromellose, Polyethylene Glycol, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide Red

 

Dosage:

 

  • Adults: One tablet daily, starting 1-2 days before entering a malaria-endemic area, continuing daily during the stay, and for 7 days after leaving the area.
  • Children and Adolescents: Not recommended unless prescribed by a doctor.

 

Side Effects:

 

  • Common: Headache, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhoea, dizziness
  • Uncommon: Rash, itching, mouth ulcers, hair loss
  • Rare: Severe allergic reactions, liver problems, severe skin reactions

 

Warnings:

 

  • Do not use if allergic to atovaquone, proguanil hydrochloride, or any other ingredients.
  • Not suitable for individuals with severe kidney or liver disease.
  • Consult a healthcare professional if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • If you experience severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or a sudden change in bowel habits, discontinue use and seek medical advice.

 

Interactions:

 

  • May interact with other medications, including warfarin, metoclopramide, tetracycline, rifampicin, and certain antiretrovirals.
  • Inform your doctor or pharmacist of all medications you are taking to avoid potential interactions.

 

Storage:

 

  • Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
