Chloramphenicol Eye Ointment 4g

This is a restricted product so you will be asked questions at checkout before being able to purchase.

Chloramphenicol Eye Ointment is a treatment for both adults and children for acute bacterial conjunctivitis. Bacterial Conjunctivitis is characterised by a redness and inflammation of the eye with the possible presence of a golden crust. The eye ointment should be used regularly for 5 days for the infection to clear.

Typical signs of bacterial conjunctivitis

Symptoms

  1. Redness: The white part of the eye (sclera) appears red or bloodshot due to inflammation.
  2. Thick Discharge (Pus): A sticky, yellow or greenish discharge may form, often causing the eyelids to stick together, especially after sleep.
  3. Eye Discomfort: A gritty or foreign body sensation in the eye, and mild pain or irritation.
  4. Swollen Eyelids: Inflammation can cause puffiness around the eyes.
  5. Crusting: Dried discharge may crust around the eyelashes, particularly in the morning.
  6. Tearing: Increased tearing or watery eyes may occur.
  7. Blurred Vision: Discharge may temporarily blur vision, but this usually clears with blinking or cleaning the eyes.
  8. Sensitivity to Light: Eyes may feel uncomfortable in bright light (photophobia).

Other Signs

  • Symptoms usually begin in one eye but may spread to the other.
  • No significant itching, which is more characteristic of allergic conjunctivitis.

When to Seek Medical Attention

  • If symptoms worsen or persist for more than a few days.
  • Severe pain or vision changes.
  • Suspected infection in newborns or individuals with weakened immune systems.
